Peritoneal mesothelioma accounts for 20 to 25 percent of all mesothelioma cases. This type of cancer is more common in females than in men. Research suggests that patients with this type of mesothelioma have longer life expectancies.
HIPEC is becoming a popular treatment method for peritoneal mesothelioma. After surgical removal of visible mesothelioma tumors, a patient’s abdomen is bathed with chemotherapy that is heated to about 107 degrees. This process occurs for approximately 60 to 90 minutes.
Dr. Bhagwandin trained under Dr. Daniel Labow and Dr. Sarpel at Mount Sinai. Dr. Labow is recognized for founding the HIPEC program at Mount Sinai. The program has been changing the lives of mesothelioma warriors since its creation in 2007. In fact, it is considered one of the busiest HIPEC programs in the United States.
